PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

As an artist, I want to focus my work on my passion for immersive installation theatre. I want to create an immersive, promenade piece that the audience can walk through and interact with at their own will, engaging with different senses along the way.

Through a series of overwhelming sensory installations, guided by a 360 degree audio walk experienced through headphones to create a personal experience for each individual, I aim to comment on my own experience of an unknown condition which I have suffered from for the past 5 years and how my senses are affected through seizures. This condition, however, I do not want to be apparent within the piece. I would rather the piece be an overall comment on how individuals experience the world in different ways, allowing others an insight to how I experience reality through my condition.

I want my project to be autobiographical without any words, for it to be open for interpretation. My intention for this is as a personal reflection of how each person that has experienced me whilst I’ve been spaced out has felt.
I will use everyday objects to create my installations, as a comment of how this happens in the everyday and how materials ground me in reality when I am suffering.

My work in progress showing has helped me to further my project. I was able to recognise that, given clear instructions, the audience would interact with my installations as desired. I also learnt that the piece was too calm, it didn’t possess the sense of being overwhelmed as I now desire it to be. I will experiment with strobe lighting and white noise in order to build upon the feeling of being overwhelmed.
